Wellness

The goal of a wellness program for your pet is to prevent or minimize the chance of disease or injury. It’s a well-proven fact that animals who receive regular examinations live healthier, longer lives. These visits allow us to monitor your pet’s general health and to identify, diagnose and treat any health conditions before they become serious issues. They also give us a chance to get to know you and your pet better and provide you with the opportunity to ask questions or discuss any concerns you may have.

The comprehensive pet wellness program at McPherson Veterinary Clinic includes an individualized disease prevention program, a personalized vaccination plan, and ongoing monitoring of your pet’s general health including weight, eyes, ears, skin, teeth and vitals. During your visit, we will ask a series of questions about your pet’s behavior, lifestyle and other factors. The answers you provide will help us to create an accurate picture of your pet’s overall wellbeing and help us work together to keep your pet healthy and happy.

Dental

Caring for your pet’s teeth and gums is more than just cosmetic.  It’s an essential part of his overall health and wellbeing.  Periodontal disease is one of the most common afflictions affecting cats and dogs.  In fact, according to The American Veterinary Dental Society, 70-85% of dogs and cats show signs of oral disease by age 3.  Regular dental care is about more than just preventing bad breath or tarter – it’s about protecting your pet from the onset of this dangerous disease, which can also lead to a host of other more serious conditions if left untreated.

Regular oral examinations performed by the staff at McPherson Veterinary Clinic are a key component of your pet’s wellness plan.  We perform a wide range of comprehensive dental procedures using state-of-the-art equipment and technology including ultra-sonic peazio scaler, polishing, extractions, and gingival resections to help ensure that your pet receives the best dental care available.

Signs and symptoms of possible dental problems may include: pain/discomfort, bad breath, excessive drooling, change in appetite or eating habits, fractured or loose teeth, swelling or bleeding of the gums, sores or wounds.  If your pet exhibits any of these symptoms, contact us to make an appointment.

Preventative Dental Care: Just as with humans, ongoing preventative dental care for animals, such as regular tooth brushing, is important between visits to prevent future dental problems.  The highly trained staff at McPherson Veterinary Clinic will work with you to educate you on how you can play an active role in your pet’s oral health.
